1. The inspiration

We love being by the sea.  It brings such a sense of freedom and peace.  Wandering along the beach, watching the waves and listening to the sounds of the sea is magic.  We were lucky enough to grow up by the sea in Southport and spent many happy hours on the beach collecting shells and watching the birds.  Now we are lucky to live in Northumberland and have miles of beautiful beaches to visit, each with their own unique landscapes.

We chose the ingredients raspberry, rosehip and sea buckthorn as they can be found growing in dune habitats along the British coastline.  The sweet tang of the raspberries combines with the tart citrus flavour of the sea buckthorn really well.  A little sea salt on the top brings all the flavours to life.

2.  The ingredients

As with all our bars, we think all our ingredients are pretty special.  All are organic and all have a nutritional benefit for your body and mind.  Palmyra Blossom Nectar is used to sweeten all our bars and its amazing benefits can be found in a separate blog.

We flavour our coast bar with homemade roasted organic hazelnut butter which adds a lovely richness to the bars.  Organic raspberry, rosehip and sea buckthorn powders add fruitiness and a lovely tang to the bars.

Hazelnuts, raspberry, rosehip and sea buckthorn all have their own amazing health properties and we will talk about them in separate blogs.

3.  Our label

We love our label for Coast.  It’s so distinctive you immediately find yourself at the seaside.  The colours and design are gorgeous and we find it so soothing.

4.  Its versatility

As well as enjoying coast on its own, we also like it on porridge.  Making your favourite porridge by adding a few frozen raspberries is delicious.  If you let a few squares of coast bar melt on the top and swirl it in before eating, it brings breakfast to a whole new level!

You can also grate it over desserts, pancakes and waffles. We’ve also added some recipes in our blog.

5.  Travel

As with all our bars, the flavours are inspired by travel to different parts of the world.  This one is inspired by our British Coast.  We’ve been lucky to holiday in Scarborough, Whitby, Filey and Blackpool as children and have lots of happy memories splashing around in rock pools and the sea.  Later as an ecologist, spending lots of time identifying coastal plants and just appreciating our wonderful coastlines.

6.  Did you know……?

We are very proud to announce that our Coast bar is a finalist in this year’s Nourish Awards.  Dubbed the toughest Health Food Awards in the UK, we are delighted to have reached the final stages in the Chocolate, Confectionary and Desserts category.  Winners will be announced in September, but there will be a public vote opening on the 20th July.  Watch out for the link on our social media pages – we’d love it if you could vote for us!
