moroccan – spearmint

moroccan – Mint is such a popular flavour for this type of treat and its origins are widespread. Linking this flavour to Morocco, however, seemed the obvious choice. I’m sure most of you will have tried mint tea and if you haven’t you should! Moroccan mint tea is a green tea prepared with spearmint leaves and sugar. The leaves have a clear pungent and mild aroma. As it is traditional to the Greater Maghreb region (includes the countries of Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya and Mauritania), it is also known as Magherbi mint tea. Usually peppermint oil is used as a flavour, which is quite strong and fiery in taste. We have managed to source an organic spearmint essential oil, made from Moroccan spearmint leaves to flavour our raw cacao with. It’s a milder flavour than peppermint, but we love it! We really hope you like it for a change.
Have you visited Morocco? Please let us know your travel experiences? I can’t wait to visit one day and experience the hustle and bustle of the markets, ride out into the desert and watch the stars. The pattern on our wrapper is actually from a Moroccan pottery. We love the colours and patterns and hope we’ve captured the Moroccan spirit in our cacao bar.
