Each of our ingredients, including the flavourings, are functional foods in that they all have a nutritional benefit for you. Now we would like to explain the health benefits of the flavourings used in each of our bars. Today we will talk about Turkish Nights.

Turkish Nights is inspired by trips to Turkey and is flavoured with ground coffee, hazelnut and white mulberries. In a previous blog, we’ve already covered why hazelnuts are so good for you.

We use organic ground coffee within our cacao mix, with chopped-dried white mulberries and roasted hazelnuts on the top of the bars to give wonderful texture and bursts of sweetness and nuttiness in each mouthful.

Health benefits of ground coffee

Good for your gut

Ground coffee is full of soluble fibre and prebiotics, which feed the good bacteria in your gut. Having ground coffee every day can increase the diversity of your gut biome.

Improves brain function

Much research suggests that coffee can improve the long-term health of your brain and reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease. It can also reduce the risk of developing Parkinson’s disease. Part of the effect of coffee can be explained by an increase in metabolic functions, which gives a significant boost to brain performance. We all know that coffee contains the stimulant caffeine, which can improve memory, alertness, mood, energy, and vigilance.

Drinking more than one cup of ground coffee a day can also help reduce the incidence of depression.

Improves health

Ground coffee is packed full of antioxidants which are important for good health as they prevent cells from being damaged by toxins; free radicals leading to oxidative stress / chronic disease and inflammation, which can cause arthritis and cancer.

Coffee contains the antioxidant chlorogenic acid, which prevents cardiovascular disease. In addition, coffee contains small quantities of B vitamins, magnesium, and potassium necessary for good immune and nervous function.

Increases physical activity levels

Coffee gives us an energy boost enabling us to reach daily fitness targets and increase exercise levels during the day.

Health benefits of White Mulberries

Improves health

White mulberries are full of antioxidants, including flavonoids, alkaloids and phenolic acids. These compounds are known to prevent or fight inflammatory and chronic diseases, including cancers.

Stabilises blood sugar levels

White mulberries are high in fibre and protein and packed with micronutrients which can help to stabilise blood sugar levels.

Lowers cholesterol levels

Extracts in white mulberries have been found to lower the amounts of bad cholesterol whilst raising the levels of good cholesterol in the blood. Reducing the levels of bad cholesterol can help to prevent heart disease.
