We only use natural and organic ingredients in our bars, including any flavourings. Each of our ingredients, including the flavourings, are functional foods in that they all have a nutritional benefit for you. We want to explain the health benefits of the flavourings used in each of our bars, starting with Carnival –

Carnival is inspired by trips to the Caribbean and is flavoured with banana, hazelnut and coconut. In a previous blog, we’ve covered why hazelnuts are so good for you. We use organic banana powder in our cacao mix and pieces of organic sun-dried banana on top of the bars to give wonderful texture and sweetness to each mouthful.

Health benefits of bananas

Bananas are known to contain high levels of potassium. This essential mineral is vital for a healthy central nervous system and maintaining normal blood pressure due to its vasodilating properties.

Bananas are a good source of other vitamins and minerals such as copper, manganese, iron, and Vitamins A, C and E. These are all essential antioxidants helping to prevent free radical damage, which may lead to inflammation and chronic illness. They are also crucial for a healthy immune system.

Sun-dried bananas are also an excellent source of slow-release energy, which will help prevent any insulin spikes and lead to more stable blood sugars.

Health benefits of Coconut

We put delicious pieces of toasted organic coconut chips on the top of our bars. As well as tasting good coconut is also really good for you!

Coconuts are high in fat but good fats, mainly medium chain triglycerides (MCTs). These are metabolised by the body differently than other types of fats. MCTs are broken down in the small intestine to provide quick-release energy. These fats and the high fibre levels in coconut are also good for stabilising blood sugar levels.

High levels of antioxidants are also found in coconut, which prevents damage from free radicals at a cellular level. This can prevent inflammation in the body, which helps prevent chronic illnesses.

Coconuts are a highly nutritious food, but because it is so high in fats, it is also high in calories. As with all our bars, we encourage you to enjoy them in small amounts as part of a healthy eating lifestyle.
