Almonds are a superfood – fact! Originally native to the Middle East, almonds can be found in the Mediterranean, parts of Africa and America, most notably California.

As well as being high in fibre, which is good for your gut and controls hunger pangs, they contain high levels of antioxidants. Antioxidants prevent oxidative stress which are caused by free radicals. Free radicals are generated by our bodies by natural processes or by external influences such as pollution, x-rays, smoking etc. A balance between free radicals and antioxidants is needed for normal physiological functions. When there is an imbalance then oxidative stress can occur which leads to inflammation and illnesses. Antioxidants can help prevent heart disease and high cholesterol levels. The antioxidants in almonds are mainly found brown skin outer layer.

Almonds also contain high levels of healthy mono-unsaturated fats and Vitamin E, which are needed for good skin, eye health and the immune system. It is also a very good source of Magnesium, necessary for a good nervous system. It also regulates and maintains blood sugar and blood pressure levels.

We roast organic unblanched almonds, from Spain, to make our own almond butter. Our almond butter is added to two of our bars Olé and California which provides even more nutrients to our superfood cacao bars!
